Alix Ritchie


Alix Ritchie is a media strategy consultant. She was, until earlier this year, owner and publisher of the Provincetown Banner. A self-described agitator and activist, she is passionate about Cape Cod, Provincetown, the importance of community and the principle of stewardship--the long-term commitment to leaving a place better than you found it.
She is a member of the Cape Cod Economic Development Council and the Provincetown Economic Development Council. She helped develop and continues to be involved in Campus Provincetown, an Outer Cape consortium devoted to promoting educational offerings as the generator of a new off-season economic base. She is also involved with several national media projects.
 Her educational background includes Wellesley College and a M.A. from New York University. She worked professionally as a writer and editor in New York, as a public relations manager for AT&T and was selected by the U..S. Presidential Commission on Executive Interchange to serve as consultant to the Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs, U.S. Treasury Department.
Alix moved to Provincetown in 1980 and became involved in regional and national efforts to create consensus between economic and environmental interests. She served as chair of the Provincetown Planning Board from 1981-1994, was selected to help develop the concept of a regional planning/regulatory authority, the Cape Cod Commission, and later served as Commission chair.
Awards include: New England Press Ass'n Award for Serious Columnist; Certificate of Appreciation from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; National Appreciation Award from the Educational Facilities Center for outstanding contribution to the advancement of education in America; recipient of first Outstanding Citizen Award from Provincetown Business Guild; Environmental Recognition Award from the Mass. Secretary of Environmental Affairs; Person of the Year and Regional Leadership Award from the Planning Commissions and Councils of New England.
