Become a Better Recycler – April First Friday

April 5 @ 7:30 am - 9:30 am

You either put your recycling at the curb every week or drop it off at the dump, but what happens after that? Did you include the right materials? What should you do with things like hard-to-recycle items and household hazardous waste, unwanted pharmaceuticals, and organic debris?

Kara Boule of Nauset Disposal and Kari Parcell from the Barnstable County Cooperative Extension will cover the recycling and materials management process, ideas for reducing and reusing materials, how to encourage recycling and monitor progress.

Kara Boulé is the Marketing & Community Investment Manager at Nauset Disposal, where she’s responsible for promoting the company’s operations as well as managing its charitable giving and community outreach. With nearly 15 years of marketing and advertising experience, Kara has a proven track record of helping brands build a strong presence across multiple platforms. Her background includes social media and content strategy, branding, strategic partnerships, communications and event planning. A Cape Cod wash-ashore and mom of two young children, Kara loves spending time with her family and is a lover of all things outdoors.

Kari Parcell is the Municipal Assistance Coordinator for the Barnstable County Cooperative Extension and MassDEP. She received her Undergraduate degree at the University of Oregon and her Masters at Southern New Hampshire University. She’s been living on Cape Cod for 4 years, and currently resides in Chatham. Growing up in Oregon, waste reduction was a natural part of life – her family reused, recycled and composted everything. At present, Kari works with 23 municipalities on waste reduction programs on Cape Cod and the Islands. Her role is to help these municipalities seek funding through the Department of Environmental Protection to create, implement and expand recycling programs. She also helps to educate the public and work with school-aged children on recycling in the local schools. Kari has direct relationships with many of the municipal officials who play a critical role in program implementation as well as local volunteer solid waste advisory groups.
