Second Annual Piranha Pond Program (SNEEF)

September 12, 2013 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm

You’ve Heard of the Shark Tank … Welcome to the Piranha Pond, bringing entrepreneurs and investors together on Thursday, September 12, 5:30-8:30 p.m., at the Advanced Technology and Manufacturing Center, 151 Martine Street, Fall River.

This is the second annual Piranha Pond program on the South Coast and is a partnership of the Southern New England Entrepreneurs Forum (SNEEF) and 128 Innovation Capital Group (128ICG). Entrepreneurs seeking funding have a five-minute opportunity to convince an investor panel to give them the money for their start-up, which must have either revenue or a working prototype.  128ICG has successfully run the program at multiple sites in eastern Massachusetts.

Using a format similar to the popular television show “Shark Tank”, the Piranha Pond enables the investors to provide feedback to the entrepreneurs about their presentations and companies, and information to all about why they decide to be “In” or “Out”.  If they are “In”, they will meet with the entrepreneur at a later time to discuss the entrepreneur’s company.  If they are “Out”, they will let the entrepreneur and audience know why.

Entrepreneurs wishing to apply to the Piranha Pond have until Friday, Sept. 6, 5 p.m.  Guidelines and the application form are at www.PiranhaPond.com.

The Investor panel will provide a broad spectrum of investment interests.  Investors include:  Daniel Behr, nvestx.com, venture investor in life sciences; Ray Mathieu, Cherrystone Angels and Ocean State Angels; Mitchell Sanders, individual angel investor; and Thorne Sparkman, Slater Technology Fund.

Daniel Behr is an experienced entrepreneur, venture investor and technology development professional.  Daniel has launched and/or funded dozens of ventures in the life and physical sciences, most recently CideKick Medicines (antibiotics for Gram negative pathogens).  He was Senior Vice President and a founder of Access BridgeGap Ventures, an early-stage life sciences ventures group.

Mathieu is a member of Cherrystone Angel Stone, Rhode Island’s first organized angel group, which specializes in manufacturing, distribution, technology, and service companies.  He is also an Investment Committee Member for the University of Rhode Island Foundation and an Advisory Board Member for the URI College of Business Administration.

Dr. Sanders is currently investing in life science opportunities, primarily medical device, pharma, and diagnostics.  He rarely invests in opportunities outside of life sciences unless there is a strategic long term benefit.

Sparkman joined Slater in 2000 as Executive Director of the Slater Center for Interactive Technologies (‘Slater Interactive’), now the Slater Technology Fund (‘Slater Fund’), where he invests in software, new media, and energy-related technologies, with a focus on the earliest stage of company creation.

The Piranha Pond is open to the public, and other investors are expected to be in the audience.
Admission is $25, which includes pizza and salad, or join SNEEF for $75 and attend the forums free.  Register at www.sneef.org.
