Separating Fact from Fiction: Artificial Intelligence Now and in the Future – Dec 2020 First Friday

December 4 @ 8:00 am - 9:00 am

Tom Davenport

AI.  Artificial Intelligence.  The phrase conjures fictional images from The Matrix and The Terminator, as well as non-fictional fears that our devices are watching us, machines will take our jobs, and social media is manipulating us.  Fortunately the Cape Cod Technology Council is delighted and proud to welcome Dr. Thomas Davenport, Babson professor, visiting professor at Oxford, distinguished author, and one of the world’s leading authorities on the subject of AI and its business applications—and a Falmouth resident.  Dr. Davenport will help us navigate fact and fiction and provide an overview of the state of AI in today’s world.

Thomas H. Davenport, Jr. is an American academic and author specializing in analytics, business process innovation, knowledge management, and artificial intelligence. He is currently the President’s Distinguished Professor in Information Technology and Management at Babson College, visiting professor at Oxford Saïd Business School, a Fellow of the MIT Initiative on the Digital Economy, Co-founder of the International Institute for Analytics, and a Senior Advisor to Deloitte Analytics.

Davenport has written, coauthored, or edited twenty books, including the first books on analytical competition, business process reengineering , achieving value from enterprise systems, and knowledge management. He has written more than one hundred articles for such publications as Harvard Business Review, MIT Sloan Management Review, California Management Review, The Financial Times, and many other publications. Davenport has also been a columnist for The Wall Street Journal, CIO, InformationWeek, and Forbes magazines.

In 2003, Davenport was named one of the world’s ‘Top 25 Consultants’ by Consulting magazine, and in 2005 was named one of the world’s top three analysts of business and technology by readers of Optimize magazine. In 2012 he was named one of the world’s “Top 50 Business School Professors” by Poets and Quants and Fortune magazine.
