Shared Work Space: What does that mean? – August 2016 First Friday

August 5, 2016 @ 7:30 am - 9:00 am

Robbin Orbison, the president and owner of CapeSpace, will discuss the concept of ‘shared workspaces’ and their impact on and value to the independent, mobile workers of the technology industry.

The term “shared workspace” refers to any number of workspace models that involve a shared working environment and independent activity. It provides shared resources and creates communities of people who are working independently but are interested in the synergy that can happen when working with others in similar circumstances.

What does the shared workspace industry have to do with technology? Everything. Technology was the first in a series of dramatic forces that have given rise to the independent worker and driven the growth and diversity of shared workspace operations worldwide. Technology specifically designed to support the shared workspace industry is keeping pace with and helping to shape the future of the industry. And shared workspace operators both utilize and provide technology resources to their clients in rapidly expanding ways.

This discussion will trace the recent history of how the global workforce and two of its primary tools, technology and physical workspace, have evolved together, and the challenges presented by the rapidity of change in this dynamic.
