RE: D.P.U. 18-116 Public Comment

To Ms. Smegal:

The Cape Cod Technology Council, Inc. (“CCTC”) is a membership based non-profit organization whose mission is to promote technology, education and economic development on Cape Cod, the Islands, and Southeastern Massachusetts.  The primary focus of the CCTC is technology and innovation.  Our membership includes local Cape, Islands, and Southeastern Massachusetts businesses, technology innovators, educational organizations, government entities, working professionals, and community leaders.

The CCTC supports the 2019-2021 Energy Efficiency Plan (“Plan”) submitted by the Cape Light Compact (“Compact”). The Plan includes enhancements for renters, small businesses, and low-to- moderate income families that address unique challenges facing the Cape and Islands. These include a strained housing market, a seasonal economy, and a need for resiliency in the face of the natural disasters that threaten our coastal communities. The enhancements will allow a broad deployment of energy efficiency upgrades. In addition, the Plan will  pair solar photovoltaic with battery storage and cold climate heat pumps to allow community members to access renewable and resilient energy sources.

Employing innovative approaches to increase energy efficiency and community resiliency is consistent with the mission of the CCTC. We encourage the Department to approve the Plan.

Very truly yours,
John Hawley, President
